Applicants must be born between 2003-2012 for the 2020 British Mountaineering Council Youth Climbing Series (BMC YCS) as per Youth E to Youth A Categories below - applicants may wish to also compete in other BMC competitions such as the British lead & Speed Championships, British Bouldering Championships and the BMC Youth Open events. Similarly, applicants must be able to tie on and belay - and for Youth C to Youth A, lead climbing experience is required. There is also a minimum grade expected to be climbed at and a recommended grade below - these grades are typical with the difficulty that the competitions represent.
Youth E Males - 2011-2012 minimum grade 4, recommended grade up to 6a
Youth E Females - 2011-2012 minimum grade 4, recommended grade up to 5+
Youth D Males - 2009-2010 minimum grade 4, recommended grade up to 6b
Youth D Females - 2009-2010 minimum grade 4, recommended grade up to 6b
Youth C Males - 2007-2008 minimum grade 6a, recommended grade up to 7a+
Youth C Females - 2007-2008 minimum grade 5, recommended grade up to 6c/6c+
Youth B Males - 2005-2006 minimum grade 6b, recommended grade up to 7b+
Youth B Females - 2005-2006 minimum grade 5, recommended grade up to 7a+/7b
Youth A Males - 2003-2004 minimum grade 6b+, recommended grade up to 7c+
Youth A Females - 2003-2004 minimum grade 6a, recommended grade up to 7b
Please note that our youth team is a coaching session not an instructional session, candidates must be able to belay tie on and have experience lead climbing for Youth C - A. The competitions are set to a certain grade; this is why a minimum and recommended grade has been listed. For instructional sessions please refer to our kids clubs, skills courses and climb schools. Commitment to attending training sessions are essential, and youth team members are expected to climb at least once each week in addition to the training sessions. Those already on the team are expected to attend.
Dart Rock Youth Team Membership - £18.50 pm and £6.00 per training session. Members benefit to unlimited use of the facility and access to coaching support.
We are very proud to be able to offer professional training and advice for our Youth Climbing Team. For several years we have been running a youth competition team who make the most of our highly experienced and nationally accredited coaches to improve their climbing and take part in national climbing competitions.
Our coaches are qualified by Mountain Training UK as Mountain Instructors, Rock Climbing Instructors, Climbing Wall Development Instructors, Foundation Coaches and Development Coaches for lead climbing activities. We also have a UK Anti-doping accredited advisor on our team. Similarly, our coaches are also members of the Mountain Training Association - demonstrating the benefits of ongoing experience & enhanced skills with current good practice by attending mandatory continued professional development. Likewise, our coaches have attended British Mountaineering Council, UK Coaching, Sport Leaders UK & Blind Sports UK coach education workshops such as;
